Organically Grown Japanese Green Tea Icon

Our green tea is grown organically in the pristine tea fields of Japan

It all starts on an artisanal tea farm in the oldest green tea region in the world—with over 800 years of green tea history. Our tea is cultivated pesticide-free and certified organic by Japanese Agricultural Standard (JAS) and equivalent USDA and EU certifications.

The tea is shade grown to increase L-theanine, chlorophyll and antioxidant content

Our green tea is shaded from direct sunlight for 3 to 4 weeks before harvest. This increases the amount of L-theanine, chlorophyll and antioxidants in the tea, and improves the texture and colour of the leaves. The extra amino acids retained from shade growing also produce a sweeter flavour and aroma.

The youngest, most vibrant leaves are selected and harvested by hand

The youngest leaves are handpicked during spring harvest. These are the freshest leaves and are selected for their richer green colour, indicating the highest levels of L-theanine, chlorophyll and antioxidants.

Steamed and Dried Tencha Leaves Icon

Leaves are steamed, dried, de-stemmed and de-veined into tencha leaves

Once the leaves are steamed and dried, they are graded according to colour, texure and aroma. The best quality dried leaves are then de-stemmed and de-veined to create what is called tencha.

Tencha leaves are stoneground into matcha

The tencha leaves are sent to the stone mill and ground into matcha. Our matcha is stoneground using the most gentle method of grinding. Stone milling uses little to no heat which helps retain nutrients in green tea that can be lost through heat in other types of grinding.

Matcha is packed and sealed in small, fresh batches

Our matcha is carefully packed and sealed in airtight recyclable bags and sachets. Our product is naturally free from GMOs, gluten and dairy, and contains no added sugar, preservatives, artificial colours or flavours.
