Benefits of Matcha

"A medicine is for one disease only, but green tea is a kind of panacea that can prevent and treat all sorts of ailments."

- Eisai, 12th century Zen Buddhist monk

High In Antioxidants

Matcha is one of the richest sources of antioxidants in the world.

Per gram, matcha has an incredible ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) rating of 1384 compared to 253 for goji berries, 227 for dark chocolate, 31 for broccoli and 26 for spinach.

As matcha is simply powdered green tea leaves and the leaves are consumed whole, it contains up to 137 times more EGCG antioxidants than regular green tea.

The antioxidant catechins and flavanoids found in matcha help to protect your body from:

  • free radical and oxidative damage
  • inflammation
  • infection from bacteria, viruses, fungi etc.
  • disease
  • aging

Increases Metabolism and Burns Fat

EGCG—or epigallocatechin gallate—is one of the powerful antioxidant catechins found only in green tea, known to boost metabolism, burn fat and reduce fat storage.

EGCG suppresses the enzyme that breaks down norepinephrine, the hormone that signals the body to burn fat cells to use as energy—boosting your body's capacity to burn fat.

Strengthens Immune System

Green tea has antimicrobial properties which help to protect your body from bacteria, viruses and fungal infections, which can cause sickness and often be at the root of hormonal imbalances, digestive and GI issues, allergies and chronic fatigue.

Research has also found drinking green tea regularly can reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease and Type 2 diabetes.

Detoxifying

Matcha is high in chlorophyll, the nutrient pigment found in all green plants and superfoods including green tea, known for its cleansing and detoxifying properties.

Chlorophyll is known for speeding up wound healing, supporting liver and kidney function as well as binding to cancer-causing carcinogens before they reach the GI tract.

It's also known for flushing out everyday environmental pollutants including heavy metals and toxins.

More Energy and Focus

Matcha has long been used by Zen Buddhist monks to help them stay alert during long periods of meditation.

These days, it's gained popularity as a healthy and gentle alternative to a cup of coffee. Matcha naturally boosts energy and focus for up to 6 hours.

Matcha contains about a third of the caffeine found in a standard cup of coffee as well as an amino acid called L-theanine, found naturally in green tea.

L-theanine works synergistically with caffeine to cancel out caffeine's negative effects including:

  • high blood pressure
  • rapid heart rate
  • digestive issues
  • anxiety
  • insomnia
  • adrenal fatigue
  • caffeine crash

Promotes Healthy, Youthful Skin

Matcha contains an abundance of antioxidants and vitamins and minerals that promote the health and appearance of your skin including reversing the signs of aging.

We believe drinking matcha regularly is a simple and effective inner beauty ritual for glowing hair, skin and nails. Green tea is antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and soothing when used both internally and topically.

It's known to help relieve skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema and acne.

Nurtures Mind, Body and Spirit

We believe matcha is Mother Nature’s elixir for mind, body and spirit. We also firmly believe in the importance of nurturing all three pillars for complete wellness.

Regularly drinking matcha promotes:

  • mental clarity
  • relaxation
  • mindfulness
  • relief from anxiety and everyday stress
  • better sleep quality
  • improved cognitive function
  • overall wellbeing

When drinking matcha before meditation and exercise, such as yoga and pilates, the effects of matcha can boost your performance and health benefits from these activities.
